Director of State Outreach
The Mercatus Center at George Mason University seeks a director of state outreach to manage its Capital Campus (state-based) educational program. The director of state outreach is responsible for overseeing a growing and dynamic economic educational program for state government policymakers within the legislative and executive branches.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing a growing in-house staff and members of a network of academic faculty;
- Cultivating relationships with university-based program partners and target policy audiences;
- Designing programs tailored to the nuances and specific opportunities of each state and ensuring full compliance with all policies and procedures of the states;
- Marketing and administering programs expanding the scope and mission of the Capital Campus program.
- Some travel is expected, though operations are based in Arlington, Virginia.
The director of state outreach reports to the vice president for educational programs. Candidates must be outgoing, results-oriented, have an excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Successful candidates will be creative, self-motivated, and have a strong understanding of market-oriented ideas. State government, Capitol Hill or policy-related experience and familiarity with basic economic principles strongly preferred.
Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience.
