2007 Capital Campus California Fall Retreat

The Berkeley Center for Law, Business and the Economy and the Mercatus Center at George Mason University will co-host a weekend event that will provide policy makers with an academic perspective on today's pressing policy issues.

For the past year, Capital Campus California has provided a forum for Sacramento’s diverse policy making staff to openly discuss issues affecting the state with experienced scholars and each other. Our fall retreat is an extension of this model, available only to legislative and executive staff in California.

The retreat is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and practice: participants will receive an in-depth understanding of the interaction of law, economics, and public policy and then reflect on how these lessons could better inform their daily work.

Participants can expect:

• Opportunities to meet and discuss ideas with prominent scholars and new colleagues from all areas of state government and from both sides of the aisle;
  
• Scholar-led conversations and interactive sessions with fellow colleagues;
  
• Specific discussions on the role economics and law play in environmental legislation & corporate finance, water policy in California, and the future of health care;
  
• The chance to acquire innovative tools that will help decision makers better analyze public policy.

What is the agenda?
Registrants will travel to the Resort at Squaw Creek on the morning of Friday, September 28, arriving for lunch and the beginning of the program. Participants can expect a number of interactive sessions over the course of the program, in addition to meals and receptions held throughout the weekend. Is transportation provided to Olympic Valley?
Yes, roundtrip bus transportation from Sacramento to the Resort at Squaw Creek will be provided. Participants are also welcome to manage their own transportation, at their own expense. The bus will be located at 15th & N near the Capitol grounds and depart to Olympic Valley at 8:30 am. 

How much does it cost?
Capital Campus California will provide transportation, meals, lodging, and materials for all retreat participants.

Can participants receive Continuing Education Credit for this event?
Yes, participants will be awarded Continuing Education Credit for this event upon request.

Does the 2007 Capital Campus California Fall Retreat comply with ethics rules?
