Biography
Lee J. Alston is a professor of economics, political science and government and public affairs at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he has taught since 1988. He is also a faculty affiliate at the Institute for Environmental Studies and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Economic History.
His most recent research includes an examination of the impact of uncertain legal tenure on land use in the Brazilian Amazon and the effects of paternalism on 19th century American Agriculture.
He earned his BA at Indiana University and his MA and PhD at University of Washington.
