Biography
Pauline Dixon is the international research coordinator for the E.G. West Centre. There she studies the effectiveness of private versus government schools in the developing world and investigates the size of the private education sectors in poor areas.
Dr. Dixon also played a major role in the CfBT project on private schools for the poor in India, making frequent field trips to conduct interview and questionnaire work, supervising research teams, developing questionnaires and case study materials, coding and analysing findings, and assisting in the preparation of intervention materials and their evaluation.
She is the joint author of the prestigious Pearson Handbook on Educational Management chapter on budget private schools. She was also a leading writer of Educational Freedom: A Global Perspective, that was a winner of the Freedom Project. She co-authored HIV and Aids in Schools: The Political Economy of Pressure Groups and Miseducation (IEA, 2002), and Delivering Better Education (Adam Smith Institute). In 2003 she won the Don Lavoie graduate essay prize from the Society for the Development of Austrian Economics for a paper about private schools in India and the regulations with which they have to abide.
