Peter Gordon

Biography
Peter Gordon is an affiliated senior scholar at the Mercatus Center, and a professor of real estate economics and public policy in the University of Southern California's School of Policy, Planning, and Development.
Dr. Gordon's research interests are in applied urban economics. He has recently written on the problems of the "sprawl" debate. Dr. Gordon is also the coeditor (with David Beito and Alexander Tabarrok) of The Voluntary City(The University of Michigan Press, 2002). Dr. Gordon is the coeditor of Planning and Markets, an all-electronic refereed journal.
Dr. Gordon and his colleagues have developed the Southern California Planning Model, which they apply to the study of economic impacts at detailed spatial and sectoral scales. Recent applications have included studies of the economic effects of major earthquakes, tsunamis as well as proposed public works projects.
Dr. Gordon has published in most of the major urban planning, urban transportation and urban economics journals. He has consulted for local, state and federal agencies, the World Bank, the United Nations and many private groups.
Dr. Gordon earned his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971.
