Over a half-century of evidence gives reason to believe that the nation-state has failed many in Africa and elsewhere in their passage to democratic modernity. Beginning with this diagnostic assessment, The Constitution of Development: Crafting Capabilities for Self-Governance, examines the institutional basis of good governance, the analytical foundations for crafting a viable constitutional order, and the practical implications of this approach for sustainable development. Written while a visiting scholar at the Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis at Indiana University, this book manuscript is in advanced preparation. The manuscript is being prescribed as required reading for graduate & upper undergrad courses at McGill University (Quebec) and at Carleton College (Minnesota).
