William Hartung, Director of Arms and Security Program at Center for International Policy, discusses the US currently witnessing of the realignment of Allies and reevaluating the United States’ European strategy and global strategy. Hartung explains that the Russian invasion of Ukraine changing the European Union and NATO dynamics “is inevitable”, and that he hopes this will mean Europe doing more its own defense and being better about coordination among European NATO members”. His fears is that it will become more about relying on the U.S. to continue the “global expansion” of the US military and becoming the world-wide watchdog, ready to commit “to fight almost anywhere” in the world.
