About our keynote speaker:
John A. Allison is chairman of BB&T Corporation, the 10th largest financial services holding company headquartered in the U.S. Mr. Allison began his service with BB&T in 1971, became president in 1987, and was elected chairman and CEO in 1989. During his tenure as chairman and CEO from 1989 to 2008, BB&T grew from $4.5 billion to $152 billion in assets.
A stalwart defender of liberty, Mr. Allison is committed to advancing the moral value of capitalism. As a demonstration of his commitment to those principles, soon after the landmark Kelo Supreme Court decision, Mr. Allison announced that BB&T would not do business with developers of land seized through eminent domain. Last fall, he also sent a letter to all members of Congress explaining his opposition to the government's bailout plan. Through his leadership, the BB&T Foundation has supported more than fifity university programs that advance a moral defense of capitalism.
