The US Economy: Still in Low Gear

In this podcast, the Mercatus Center’s Bruce Yandle and Bill Beach discuss Yandle’s September 2016 quarterly report. Dr. Yandle reports second quarter growth has decreased to 1.1%, which followed the first quarter’s 0.8%, giving an average of less than 1.0% for the year’s first half. Yandle explains how these numbers are captured through workforce participation and productivity and why these measurements matter. In addition, the two economists engage in a discussion the effects of regulation, geographic differences, and policy.
