The Regressive Effects of Regulation

Please click on the map below to view the unintended consequences of regulation in each state. These negative impacts of regulation tend to harm the most vulnerable members of society; hence the term “regressive effects.” Each snapshot summarizes the regressive effects of federal regulation on a given state and includes estimates of lost businesses and jobs, inflated consumer prices, and increased poverty and income inequality. Each state’s snapshot also reports the state-level regulation ranking relative to the rest of the country and provides a brief overview of state occupational licensure rules.
