Lucie Alden is a PhD student in English literature at the University of Virginia. Her research interests include early modern English literature and the book trade. Her dissertation examines business models of the theater and print industries in this era, comparing Shakespeare’s protocapitalistic approach with the more dated patronage-based business model of his peers. Lucie earned an MSt in English literature from the University of Oxford and a BA in economics and English literature from McGill University. She was a Mercatus Center Adam Smith Fellow during the 2021-2022 academic year.
