Former BLS Commissioner Joins the Mercatus Center

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is pleased to announce the return of Dr. Keith Hall as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow. He previously worked at Mercatus as a Senior Research Fellow from 2012 to 2014.

“I am delighted to be back at the Mercatus Center,” said Hall. “I’m looking forward to working on both the future of the federal budget and on labor economics issues, the latter focusing on labor market trends in the post-pandemic economy.”

Hall has over 25 years of public policy experience, including as Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Director of the Congressional Budget Office. He also served at the Department of Commerce, United States International Trade Commission and on the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Most recently he taught at Georgetown’s McCourt School of Public Policy. He holds a doctorate in economics from Purdue University.

“Keith will be an invaluable addition to Mercatus, and his research and expertise will be key to gauging the post-COVID labor market’s health and resiliency” said Daniel M. Rothschild, Executive Director of the Mercatus Center.
