Application Process Opens for Emergent Ventures

Earlier today, the Mercatus Center announced that the online application process for Emergent Ventures is now live.

The program, which includes a combination of financial support and mentor access, aims to identify and support life-changing projects with the potential to radically advance prosperity, opportunity, liberty, and well-being.

In the words of Mercatus Center General Director Tyler Cowen, “America and many other leading economies have had a productivity slowdown since 1973, and part of what we can do here at Mercatus is actually help to end that by inspiring creators and supporting them.”

The first step of the application process is simple. Those interested in participating in Emergent Ventures are asked to answer a few basic questions and draft a brief proposal of no more than 1,500 words.

That proposal should accomplish three main goals:

  • Tell your personal story and how it relates to what you want to do
  • Identify a mainstream or ‘consensus' view that you absolutely agree with
  • Convince Mercatus that your idea is worth investing in (which includes identifying the problem you want to solve)

The program itself is tailored to individual participants, meaning that some will participate in full fellowship program, while others may simply receive grant money to support their projects.
