Lessons from Liberalism: Insights for the Current Immigration Debate

On Tuesday May 25, the Mercatus Center at George Mason University and the Classical Liberal Institute co-hosted a webinar exploring the benefits of immigration and reform options for the 117th Congress. New economic and policy research demonstrates immigrants strengthen the US economy by starting businesses, creating new products, and keeping America demographically younger. A large majority of immigrants also embrace America’s culture of freedom and opportunity. Reforms efforts should be informed by these insights as they offer a meaningful bipartisan path forward.

Political theorist, Dr. Chandran Kukathas opens the discussion with remarks on his new book, Immigration and Freedom that presents a critique of immigration control. Mercatus Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Liya Palagashvili leads a panel discussion with three immigration experts that have recently published new research and policy recommendations on the topic.
