OBEY IT OR CHANGE IT, BUT YOU CAN’T IGNORE THE LAW

Despite the fact that it is required by Article I of the Constitution, it has been more than four years since Congress passed a budget. Time and time again, today’s politicians demonstrate a disrespect for the laws they are elected to uphold by ignoring them.

Written nearly 800 years ago, the Magna Carta shifted the balance of power away from the monarchy and established societies that were ruled by laws instead of people. But over time, the accountability between lawmakers and the people they represent has become distorted. Too many of today’s politicians abuse the rule of law and govern like monarchs.

Please join the Mercatus Center for a discussion with Maurice McTigue, former cabinet minister and member of parliament in his native New Zealand, for a discussion about the changes that must occur in order to return to a society ruled by laws that are written by fairly elected representatives.

This is not a fundraising event and there is no charge to join us. We are pleased to have you as our guest to show our thanks and appreciation to our donors. Dress is business casual. Please invite friends or associates who might be interested.
