Former FDIC Vice Chairman, KC Fed President Hoenig Joins Mercatus

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is pleased to welcome the Honorable Thomas Hoenig as a Distinguished Senior Fellow. Dr. Hoenig brings decades of policy experience in economics, banking supervision and financial services to Mercatus’ financial regulations team.

“I am very pleased to join the Mercatus Center,” said Dr. Hoenig. “I look forward to working with Mercatus to support competitive, accountable markets.”

Previously, Dr. Hoenig served as Vice Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from 2012 until 2018. In that capacity, he had an oversight role for FDIC operations and policy related to deposit insurance pricing, bank supervision, and financial stability and bank resolution. Prior to working at the FDIC, Dr. Hoenig served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and a member of the Federal Reserve System's Federal Open Market Committee from 1991 to 2011.
