The Mercatus Center at George Mason University named Eileen Norcross as its next vice president for policy research, effective this spring. She will succeed William Beach, who was nominated by the president to serve as the next Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“It is a privilege to be able to lead Mercatus’ growing policy research team at this important juncture,” Norcross said. “Mercatus has a history of strong scholarship and offering innovative solutions to policy challenges. I’m excited for us to build upon this legacy and advance the visionary work of Mercatus’ scholars.”

Norcross joined the Mercatus Center as a senior research fellow in 2003, and has served as director of the Center’s State and Local Policy Project since 2014. She is the author of more than 30 scholarly papers and research reports on topics including state fiscal dynamics, public sector pensions, local economic development, and infrastructure financing.

“Eileen is a deeply insightful scholar with a strong track record of asking the ‘next big question’ on public finance and federalism,” said Tyler Cowen, general director of the Mercatus Center. “Her experience as a researcher, communicator, teacher, and leader will be critical to our continued growth and impact.”
