Alexandra Bourne

Director of State Outreach

Sandy Liddy Bourne is the Director of State Outreach at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. Previously, she served in former VA Governor George Allen’s administration as Chief Deputy Director of the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Mrs. Bourne became nationally recognized for her work with nonprofit policy organizations such as the American Legislative Exchange Council and The Heartland Institute, focusing on individual liberty and free market policies with expertise in environment, energy, and homeland security policy initiatives. Mrs. Bourne has also served on Virginia state boards as an appointee of former Governors Allen, Gilmore, and McDonnell as well as former Virginia General Assembly Speaker Bill Howell.

As a former Army nurse, Mrs. Bourne holds an MSN from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and a BSN from the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, New York. She is married to Master Gunnery Sergeant Bryan R. Bourne, USMC (Ret.) of the “President’s Own” Marine Band and has three adult children and one perfect grandchild.
