For Fairness and Innovation, Apply Same Rules to Taxis, Ride-Shares

Texas lawmakers are considering legislation that would pre-empt local regulations on taxis, limos and "Transportation Network Companies" (TNCs) like Uber and Lyft. This would end the local conflicts between taxis, city leaders, and TNCs that led to Uber and Lyft leaving Austin and San Antonio, and nearly leaving Houston just before the Super Bowl. It's critical, though, that policymakers learn from other states' mistakes and treat the whole industry equally under the law.
