New Year's Resolution: Keeping Government Accountability

A bond of trust exists between voters and their elected officials that government leaders will use honest practices to reach an intended set of outcomes. Confidence in Congress' abilities, and in government in general, may waver at times but can be strengthened by operating government in a transparent and accountable manner, regardless of the policy or practice in question. While this may seem like a simple concept in theory, understanding what transparency and accountability involves is often more difficult.

To address the importance and the implementation of these concepts, the Mercatus Center at George Mason University is pleased to host former New Zealand Cabinet Minister and member of Parliament Maurice McTigue to share his experiences and expertise on the benefits of an open government and successful tools that can be used to deter corruption and promote policies that accomplish their goals.
