When companies are allowed to compete freely, the market thrives and the consumer benefits. Unfortunately, entrepreneurs are being held back by old laws and risk-averse regulators. Outdated and unnecessary regulations, corporate welfare, and cronyism are all waging a war on American entrepreneurship, combining to discourage innovation and prevent new goods and services from entering the market. We see the effects in a variety of industries: certificate-of-need laws inhibit health care providers from offering new and better treatments; craft brewers must jump through regulatory hoops to sell their hops; and ridesharing services are under constant scrutiny.
