Shruti Rajagopalan Joins Mercatus Center

Arlington, VA—The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is pleased to announce that Dr. Shruti Rajagopalan will join Mercatus as a senior research fellow, starting September 1, 2019. Dr. Rajagopalan is an alumna of Mercatus’ PhD Fellowship program. At Mercatus, Dr. Rajagopalan’s research will focus on Indian political economy, property rights, and economic development.

“I’m excited to return to the Mercatus Center, my intellectual home, said Dr. Rajagopalan. I believe the Mercatus approach of applying market-oriented ideas to real world problems can make a valuable contribution to Indian public policy.”

In addition to her position at Mercatus, Dr. Rajagopalan will teach at the Indian School of Public Policy, New Delhi.

“Mercatus was founded to support students and train the next generation of professors and intellectuals,” said Mercatus executive director Daniel M. Rothschild. “We are thrilled to have one of our most talented alumnae, Dr. Rajagopalan, return to launch a new project focused on India and helping chart its economic future.”  

Before joining Mercatus, Dr. Rajagopalan was an Associate Professor of Economics at Purchase College, State University of New York and a Fellow at the Classical Liberal Institute at New York University School of Law. She earned her PhD in economics from George Mason University in 2013. Additionally, she has a BA in Economics and an LL.B. from University of Delhi and an LL.M. from the European Masters in Law and Economics Program at University of Hamburg, Ghent University, and University of Bologna.
