This article argues that economic growth requires entrepreneurial alertness to be directed toward productive activities. To illustrate this argument, Romania was analyzed as a case where the payoff to unproductive and evasive activities is relatively higher as compared with productive activities. Given this, it is possible to put forth some general guidelines for the achievement of economic progress.
