Visiting Fellow
Tara Isabella Burton is a visiting fellow with the Mercatus Center’s Program on Pluralism and Civil Exchange. She is also the author of the nonfiction books Self-Made: Creating Our Identities from Da Vinci to the Kardashians and Strange Rites: New Religions for a Godless World, as well as the novels Social Creature, The World Cannot Give, and the forthcoming Here in Avalon, and a regular contributor to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. Dr. Burton is currently working on a nonfiction book about magic, technology, and the Internet.
Fellowship focus:
- The “theology of the internet,” or how the internet as a phenomenon has shaped, and will continue to shape, our shared culture and moral assumptions
- The valorization of the private self in our changing culture and moral frameworks
