In 2000, Dr. Vernon Smith joined the faculty of George Mason University. Here, he founded the Interdisciplinary Center for Economic Sciences where he continued his pioneering work in the field of experimental economics. In 2002, while at Mason, he received the Nobel Prize in economics.
Previous faculty appointments include the University of Arizona, Purdue University, Brown University, and the University of Massachusetts. He has been a Ford Foundation Fellow, Fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, and a Sherman Fairchild Distinguished Scholar at the California Institute of Technology.
Dr. Smith is currently a professor of economics and law and the George L. Argyros Endowed Chair in Finance and Economics at Chapman University and professor emeritus at George Mason University. Dr. Smith has authored or co-authored over 200 articles and books on capital theory, finance, natural resource economics, and experimental economics.
Dr. Smith holds a BA in electrical engineering from California Institute of Technology, an MA in economics from the University of Kansas, and a PhD in economics from Harvard University.
