Juan Gelvez is a PhD student in Government and Politics at the University of Maryland, College Park. He earned an MPP, as well as a BA in Government and Public Affairs, from the Universidad de Los Andes. He studies the politics of crime and natural disasters in Latin America, primarily using quasi-experiments to measure the effects of crime, drug policy and natural disasters on voters' preferences.
