President Trump has certainly left his mark on American politics. In an opinion for Bloomberg, Tyler Cowen argues that at least one of the president's contributions to political discourse is likely to last: a propensity to stake out unusual or extreme positions. Voters and, increasingly, the politicians that represent them seem to be drifting towards stances that would have appeared outside the mainstream only a few years ago. Whether it is the increasing support for abolishing ICE on the left or deepening hostility to immigration on the right, the gap between the two sides in American politics is widening.
