Dr. Chad Van Schoelandt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Tulane University, the Director of the Murphy Institute’s Center for Ethics, and an Affiliated Fellow with the F.A. Hayek Program for Advanced Study in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. 

He earned his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Arizona, his MA in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a BA with high honors in Philosophy from the University of California, Davis, and is an alum of the Mercatus Adam Smith Fellowship. 

He specializes in social and political philosophy as well as normative ethics. His work has been published in numerous scholarly journals, including Ethics, Analysis, Philosophical Studies, the Philosophical Quarterly, and Law and Philosophy. He is coeditor of The Routledge Handbook of Anarchy and Anarchist Thought (Routledge, 2021) with Gary Chartier and Toward a Hayekian Theory of Social Change (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2023) with Peter Boettke and Erwin Dekker.
