Matt Mittelsteadt
- Research Fellow
Matthew Mittelsteadt is a research fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. His work as a technologist for the Mercatus Center’s AI and Progress program focuses on AI regulatory design and measurement, critical infrastructure and cybersecurity, and the national AI talent base with the goal of ensuring that emerging AI technologies yield a net benefit.
He edits and writes for Digital Spirits, aSubstack newsletter on AI policy. His writing has appeared in The Hill and Noema Magazine and has been cited by the New York Times, Bloomberg, Foreign Policy, and Politico. Before joining Mercatus, he was a research fellow at the Institute of Security, Policy, and Law. He holds a BA in economics from St. Olaf College, an MPA from Syracuse University, and an MS in cybersecurity from New York University.
